Meetings of the Corduroy Appreciation Club
What Happens
Meetings occur on dates which resemble or refer to Corduroy. Meetings are generally held in clandestine or locations off the beaten path. An invitation is required. Meetings often have themes. The following agenda items are standard:
- Social hour prior to meeting commencement
- Minutes from previous meetings
- Opening remarks
- Club votes
- Secret rituals
- Keynote speaker—a person of interest to the CAC, or a person of note who has something particularly interesting to say about Corduroy
- Member open forum—Member inspired poetry, prose, song, artwork, dances, etc…
- The Corduroy Appreciation Club Awards
The following items are not standard, but have occurred:
- Closing remarks
- Contests—female and male wearing most or best Corduroy outfit
- Carousing or “Cording Around”
Awards
The Corduroy Appreciation Club seeks to recognize excellence in many aspects of Corduroy, such as usage, appreciation and lifetime devotion. Award nominees are often kept secret.
The following are recipients of the illustrious Award for Exemplary Usage and/or Appreciation of Corduroy:
- Vahram Mateosian, Tailor of fine Corduroy Suits, The Royal Tenenbaums
- Christopher Lindland, creator of Cordarounds, horizontal Corduroy pants
- Brian McCann, as “Adrian ‘Raisin’ Foster,” from The Late Show with Conan O’Brien
- Marcus Brigstock, Comedian
- Jonathan Ames, Author
